I make and sell a lot of low wide rim bowls and plates. Most of them are around 10″ in diameter and 3/4″ to 1-1/2″ tall. I needed to
find a GOOD LOOKING low cost plate display stand that I could ship with things I sell on Etsy.
I wanted a “minimalist” stand that would visually get out of the way and let my artwork shine thru. I looked around on Amazon and the web. I rejected the big ugly clear plastic and wooden stands that are ubiquitous on the web. I also reject anything that looked to cheap and crappy.
I found some metal stands that fit the bill. I ordered some of them from Amazon and tried them out. Here is what I found.
Plate Display Stand #1
I like this one the best! It is the same as stand #2 below with the balls removed (broken off). The balls on tops of the legs are not needed and visually get in the way.The plate looks good because the stand gets out of the way visually and the plate is NOT held up to high off of the table. The stand is VERY secure because the hinged design allows the stand to spread to be just the right size for the plate. It is a nice simple design.
I decided to go with this one. I am going to ship it with all of low wide rim bowls and plates that I sell on Etsy. No additional charge for the stand.
Beware! Plate stands and retailers come and go on Amazon. They may not ship you what you order! You may be able to find the same stand from a different retailer or with a different manufactures name for less or more money! You may be able to find it on a non Amazon site for less!
Plate Display Stand #2
I don’t like the balls on the tops of the legs on this stand that stick up and visually get in the way. I like the #1 stand above better.Plate Display Stand #3
I don’t like this stand. The legs and balls on the legs get in the way visually. The fixed design (not hinged like stand #1 above) does not spread to get the legs out of the visually and is not as stable. The plate is also held to high up off of the table for my tastes.Amazon did not send me the stand shown in their photo. The stand on the right came with little balls at the top of each leg. The balls are not in the Amazon photo on left.
Plate Display Stand #4
I don’t like this stand. The plastic covers on the legs make it look to cheap and crappy. The fixed design (not hinged like stand #1 above) does not spread to get the legs out of the visually and is not as stable. The plate is also held to high up off of the table for my tastes.Carl Ford’s Minimalist Plate Stand for Photos
This is my minimalist plate stand that I use for photos. I cut it out of scrap wood.It is NOT a stable stand! Any vibration of the table or floor will knock the plate off of this stand. Thus, I DO NOT want to sell this stand on Etsy.
