Owl Plaque Demo or Class

In this easy one day workshop students will turn a cute Owl Plaque just in time for Christmas.

Simple tools and techniques will be used to create a very satisfying project. Each student should complete 1 or more Owl’s out of Western Red Cedar or Oak. The finished Owl will be around 7″ across with a 4″ diameter body.

Turning a dish style candle stick holder is a great little project.

This short demo shows how turn a candle dish in a 1/2 hour or less. The demo features just a few simple tools and just a small block of easy to obtain kiln dried wood. Plus a trick that allows you to burn lines on the inside of a bowl.

Natural Edge Bowls Demo

I love to turn green wood and I love to turn natural edge bowls.

This demo focuses on turning medium size (10 to 12″) natural edge bowls using the versatile David Ellsworth Signature Gouge. A natural edge bowl will be turned from start to finish. Topics will include wood selection, selecting and cutting the raw log, mounting the blank, the David Ellsworth Signature Gouge (cuts and sharpening), keeping the bark on, reverse jam chucking and/or vacuum chucking.

Note: Natural Edge, Live Edge, Bark Edge. They are all the same thing. A bowl with the tree bark left on the top edge of the bowl.
